Governor Otu Signs Bills Establishing State University of Education and Entrepreneurship, College of Agriculture

Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has signed into law two landmark bills establishing the State University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa and the State College of Agriculture in Obubra.
The bills, officially titled the Cross River State University of Education and Entrepreneurship Law 2024 and the Cross River State College of Agriculture Law 2024, were signed during a State Executive Council meeting at the Traditional Rulers’ Council chambers in Calabar.
Governor Otu commended the State House of Assembly for their swift legislative process, emphasizing that appointments for governing councils and principal officers will follow shortly. He noted that the establishment of these institutions underscores his administration’s dedication to education and agricultural advancement.
The new university replaces the former State College of Education, Akamkpa, while the College of Agriculture transitions from being a campus of the University of Cross River State.
Additionally, the council approved five executive draft bills for transmission to the State House of Assembly, including laws aimed at enhancing infrastructure, rural access, lotteries, water usage, and counterpart funding.
Governor Otu expressed optimism that these legislative strides will drive socio-economic development and improve public services across the state.
