Governor Biodun Oyebanji has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing inclusive education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Ekiti State. Through a comprehensive framework that includes regular training for teachers, the provision of smart classrooms, and the deployment of assistive technology, the state government continues to break barriers to quality education for PWDs.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, highlighted these efforts during a two-day training session for teaching staff from special and mainstream schools in Ikere-Ekiti. The training, organized by the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser, aimed at equipping educators with cutting-edge skills for inclusive teaching.

Agboola commended Governor Oyebanji for his unwavering dedication to ensuring that PWDs are integrated into mainstream education, fostering social inclusion. She revealed that over 200 children with severe disabilities have been brought out of isolation and successfully enrolled in schools across the state.

The Ekiti State AGILE Coordinator, Mrs. Yewande Adesua, emphasized that the project has been instrumental in supporting the government’s drive for inclusive education. She noted that AGILE has facilitated the renovation of special schools and provided digital learning tools to enhance accessibility for students with disabilities.

Adesua urged the participants to apply the lessons from the training in their daily interactions with students, stressing that teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of children with disabilities. The state government’s commitment to inclusive education, she added, remains a testament to its dedication to equitable learning opportunities for all.
