Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration has taken another major leap in infrastructure and public welfare with the procurement of 110 solar-powered pumps for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities across Ekiti State. The initiative will benefit 55 schools and 55 health centres, reinforcing the government’s resolve to improve living standards and public health.

Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, explained that the programme, under the World Bank-supported SURWASH initiative, is focused on improving access to clean water and sanitation services in underserved communities. He noted that Ekiti has already rehabilitated 121 WASH facilities and constructed 64 solar-powered boreholes, with the latest instalment aimed at deepening coverage across all local councils.

Aluko further highlighted ongoing plans to ensure sustainable power supply to the state’s dams using dedicated power sources—including solar, gas, and hydropower—to enable uninterrupted water supply. He also urged local communities to take ownership of these facilities for long-term maintenance, service delivery, and sustainability, reiterating the government’s commitment to people-centered development.
