As workers across the globe marked International Workers’ Day, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State paid glowing tribute to the resilience and contributions of the state’s workforce. Speaking during the 2025 May Day celebration, Governor Radda reaffirmed that the welfare of workers remains a top priority of his administration and highlighted the numerous initiatives already delivered to improve civil service efficiency and morale.

Among the milestones cited are the clearance of all promotion backlogs for 2023, successful conduct of promotional exams for 2024, and the disbursement of N957 million in wage awards and Ramadan welfare packages to civil servants and pensioners. The administration has also expanded the loan fund for workers to N450 million, offering financial relief and support for home refurbishment and essential needs.

In recognition of excellence, 14 outstanding workers were awarded vehicles and cash prizes of N2 million each. On pension matters, Governor Radda approved the payment of N24 billion in outstanding gratuities for both state and local government retirees, bringing long-awaited relief to thousands. The state has also launched the “Rumbum Sauki” subsidized shopping complex to ease the cost of living for workers.

Governor Radda encouraged all civil servants to recommit themselves to the service of the state, assuring them of continuous investment in their welfare, training, and development. “The civil service is the engine room of governance. We will continue to ensure it runs efficiently and compassionately,” he said.
