Governor Sanwo-Olu Breaks Ground for 18-Storey Ibom Towers in Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ibom Towers, an 18-storey multipurpose building by Akwa Ibom State, highlighting the project as a testament to inter-state collaboration and shared prosperity. The event took place on Wednesday at Plot 868A, Bishop Aboyade Cole, Victoria Island.
During the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the bold initiative taken by Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, acknowledging Lagos as an ideal investment location. He emphasized that this landmark project will not only enhance the relationship between the two states but also bolster their revenue streams.
Governor Sanwo-Olu remarked, “This groundbreaking affirms our commitment to welcoming and fostering projects that strengthen economic ties and create new opportunities across our regions. As Ibom Towers rises, it will serve as a beacon of the fruitful alliance between Lagos and Akwa Ibom, creating a unique space that encourages business, investment, and vibrant community life.”
Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, explained that the decision to invest in real estate in Lagos aims to grow Akwa Ibom’s economy and diversify its revenue sources. He referenced President Bola Tinubu’s leadership as instrumental in shaping successful economic reforms during his time as Governor of Lagos.
Also present was Obong Victor Attah, the first Governor of Akwa Ibom State in the current Fourth Republic, who encouraged Governor Eno to pursue the project despite any criticism regarding investments outside his state. He acknowledged the higher value of land and real estate in Lagos compared to Akwa Ibom, affirming that bold visions can create future opportunities.
The Managing Director of the Akwa Ibom State Investment Corporation, Pastor Imoabasi Jacob, emphasized that Ibom Towers represents a significant investment aimed at increasing the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of Akwa Ibom State, underscoring its long-term value for the state’s development.
