Governor Sanwo-Olu Celebrates Tems’ Historic Grammy Win, Applauds Nigerian Music Industry

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her historic win at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Tems made history by winning the Best African Music Performance category with her song Love Me JeJe, becoming the first Nigerian artist to achieve this remarkable feat.

Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Tems for her outstanding artistry and dedication, describing her achievement as a testament to Nigeria’s vibrant musical heritage and global influence.

Taking to his official X handle, the Governor wrote:

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Temilade Openiyi @temsbaby for winning the Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards with her song Love Me JeJe. This historic achievement marks her as the first Nigerian artist to win in this category, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication.”

He also commended other Nigerian nominees, including Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, and Davido, for their contributions to the global music industry, noting that their creativity continues to elevate Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage.
