In a major leap toward digital transformation, the Lagos State Government has established a state-of-the-art Cyber Security Operation Centre that has already successfully foiled two attempted data breaches. This strategic move is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader vision to build a secure, smart, and inclusive digital ecosystem.

Speaking at a ministerial press briefing to commemorate the second year of the governor’s second term, Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, also revealed that Lagos has rolled out 6,000km of fibre optic ducts, increasing internet subscribers to one million between 2024 and 2025. Lagos is now Nigeria’s foremost data-compliant state, with 109 data protection officers ensuring consistent adherence to global standards.

Alake further announced the integration of intelligent surveillance systems and a New Lagos Digital Services Platform for citizen engagement. On artificial intelligence, he emphasized that Lagos will provide flexible ethical guidelines to ensure safe and inclusive AI innovations, thereby encouraging responsible tech development. Additionally, over 6.4 million residents have been registered under LASRRA, with plans underway to register 10 million more within two years.
