Governor Uba Sani’s administration in Kaduna State has received high commendation from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) for fostering a harmonious relationship with the labour unions and demonstrating an unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare and rights.

Speaking during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration at the Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna, the Chairman of the Kaduna State Chapter of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, hailed Governor Sani’s open-mindedness and continuous goodwill towards workers in the state.

Highlighting the administration’s proactive and inclusive approach, the union leader recalled how the Governor sponsored leaders of both NLC and TUC to a seven-day international training workshop on “Sustainable Leadership Skills for Good Governance” at the prestigious International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC/ILO) in Turin, Italy.

Comrade Suleiman also praised Governor Sani’s swift and effective intervention during an industrial dispute involving the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity Workers (SSAEW). The strike had disrupted electricity supply across Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States following the disengagement of over 400 workers by Kaduna Electric. Thanks to the Governor’s prompt action, an amicable resolution was reached through meaningful social dialogue.

He further cited the Governor’s decisive role in resolving a prolonged crisis at the Kaduna State Water Corporation, where staff endured nearly three years of instability and over 11 months without salaries. Governor Sani’s intervention restored order, with the affected staff now reabsorbed into the state civil service salary payment platform.

The NLC Chairman also acknowledged the Governor’s responsiveness in addressing longstanding issues inherited from previous administrations. These include the release of the NUT Endwell contributions, the reinstatement of unjustly dismissed head teachers and SUBEB administrative staff, and the assurance of full implementation of the 2024 Minimum Wage Consequential Adjustment.

Governor Uba Sani’s administration was further commended for ensuring the regular payment of pensions and retirement benefits to senior citizens. In a major show of support for retirees, the Governor recently approved the release of N3.8 billion for the payment of death benefits and accrued rights under the Contributory Pension Scheme. This brings the total disbursed under his administration to an impressive N10.4 billion within just two years.

Comrade Suleiman concluded by affirming the NLC’s appreciation of the Governor’s worker-friendly policies, describing him as a true ally of the labour movement and a committed promoter of industrial peace and prosperity in Kaduna State.
