In a decisive move towards sustainable peace and reintegration, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced the imminent closure of the Muna Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp within the next two weeks.

Governor Zulum made the announcement during an early morning visit to the camp, where he assessed the final stages of preparations. Muna, once among the largest IDP camps in Maiduguri, now houses fewer than 10,000 displaced persons, with approximately 75% of residents already successfully resettled.

This milestone marks yet another step in Governor Zulum’s comprehensive policy to phase out IDP camps within Maiduguri and its environs—an initiative he launched during his first term in office. Over the past few years, his administration has closed more than a dozen formal camps, enabling thousands to return home and restart their lives with dignity.

“We are committed to restoring stability by helping our people regain self-reliance,” Governor Zulum stated. “With security formations in place, we are confident that the resettled communities are safe and ready to thrive.”

The governor also reiterated his administration’s pledge to empower returnees through livelihood support, acknowledging the significant link between sustainable resettlement and long-term security. His visit underscores a larger vision: transforming crisis into opportunity by rebuilding lives and communities.
