Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has taken a significant step toward enhancing specialized healthcare by ceding the General Hospital in Azare to the Federal Government for the establishment of a National Orthopaedic Hospital. This move, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Ministry of Health, will bring relief to thousands of residents who previously traveled long distances for orthopaedic care.

Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of expanding federal medical facilities in Borno, especially in the aftermath of over a decade of insurgency. He noted that despite current challenges, the state is committed to improving access to quality healthcare through strategic partnerships. Plans are already underway to construct a world-class hospital for possible handover to the Federal Government.

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, lauded Zulum as “Nigeria’s foremost health-friendly governor,” praising his unwavering dedication to medical development, including increased salaries for doctors and comprehensive healthcare investments. The Governor also extended his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the establishment of the orthopaedic facility, pledging full cooperation to ensure its successful operation.
