Governor Zulum Expands Food Support Program to 250,000 Beneficiaries Across Borno

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has launched a large-scale food palliative distribution program targeting 250,000 residents across Borno State, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to social welfare and economic stability.
Timed ahead of Ramadan, the initiative will provide food assistance to 100,000 people in Maiduguri and its environs, while 150,000 beneficiaries from various local government areas will also receive essential supplies. The program is part of the state government’s strategy to support vulnerable communities affected by last year’s floods.
Governor Zulum also announced a significant policy shift, reducing palliative support to Boko Haram insurgency victims by 90%. He attributed this decision to a bumper agricultural harvest, emphasizing that the government’s focus is now on fostering self-sufficiency through agribusiness and economic empowerment programs.
The launch event was attended by top political figures, including Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Askira, House of Representatives member Engr. Bukar Talba, and former Deputy Governor Usman Durkwa. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to building a resilient and self-reliant Borno, ensuring that humanitarian efforts align with long-term economic recovery.
