Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has been lauded for his pioneering livestock development initiatives, notably the commissioning of the Ngarannam Livestock Improvement and Ranch Settlement in Mafa LGA.

Professor Attahiru Jega, Co-Chair of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Committee, described the project as “the first of its kind in Nigeria,” praising Governor Zulum’s visionary leadership in fostering economic growth, livelihood improvement, and employment creation.

The Ngarannam project, built for 461 nomadic families affected by insurgency, includes modern housing, schools, healthcare facilities, veterinary services, dairy and beef upgrading centres, and local trade markets. Governor Zulum emphasized that the initiative aims to restore dignity and provide sustainable livelihoods for displaced families.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, commended the project for its potential to address food security challenges, branding Governor Zulum with the ministry’s livestock logo in recognition of his achievements.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur, highlighted that Ngarannam is one of three livestock ranching centres being developed in the state, with the others nearing completion. The initiative reflects Governor Zulum’s commitment to sustainable development and peaceful coexistence in Borno.
