Imo Government Implements Forensic Audit of Land Documents and Launches Small Claims Court for Efficient Dispute Resolution
In a move aimed at transparency and fair land administration, the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, approved a forensic audit of all land documents and suspended approvals for building plans and Certificate of Occupancy issuance. This initiative is intended to scrutinize land transactions from January 2007 to December 2023, ensuring the credibility of property documents issued by government agencies.
Simultaneously, Governor Uzodimma inaugurated the Small Claims Court, designed for swift resolution of disputes involving small monetary amounts. This specialized court, regulated by the Imo State Magistrates Courts Law Practice Directions-2023, aims to provide a simplified, cost-effective, and expeditious method of delivering justice.
Honorable Justice T.E. Chukwuemeka Chikeka emphasized the importance of updating legal processes to meet contemporary challenges, highlighting the collaboration between Imo State and the Enabling Business Environment Secretariat (EBES) of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) to create a conducive environment for the Small Claims Court’s success.
