Imo State Government Refutes False Claims About Marriages to Fulani Settlers

0

The Imo State government has strongly denied rumors suggesting that it has mandated Fulani settlers to marry local women, clarifying that these reports are entirely fabricated and misleading.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, addressed an article claiming that Governor Hope Uzodimma had instituted a policy facilitating marriages between Fulani settlers and Imo ladies, even threatening fines for those who refused consent. Emelumba emphasized that this report is a rehashed fabrication, aimed at inciting tension between the Igbos and other ethnic groups.

He linked the resurgence of these false claims to individuals who recently suffered electoral losses and are attempting to create unrest in the state. Emelumba asserted that the governor lacks the authority to enforce marriage arrangements and called on the people of Imo State to dismiss any information intended to tarnish the government’s reputation or create divisions among citizens. The government remains committed to fostering unity and peace within the community.
