Jigawa State Executive Council Approves Key Infrastructure And Development Initiatives

Highlights from the Jigawa State Executive Council Meeting – 24th February 2025

Under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, the Jigawa State Executive Council convened on Monday, 24th February 2025, to deliberate and approve critical projects aimed at advancing infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare in the state.

1. Compensation for Township Road Construction

The State Government has approved ₦1.51 billion for the compensation of individuals and communities affected by the ongoing township road construction projects across several local government areas. This initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to expanding road networks for economic growth and improved mobility.

2. Investment in Dry Season Rice Farming Programme

To solidify Jigawa’s status as a leading rice-producing state, the Council approved ₦8.26 billion as a 30% down payment for input costs under the 2025 Dry Season Rice Programme. The program will:

• Support 58,500 farmers in cultivating 50,000 hectares of rice.

• Establish 1,000 clusters in major rice-producing areas.

• Ensure loan repayment is made post-harvest, easing financial strain on farmers.

3. Extension of MoU with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) France

The State Government extended its partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) France for an additional two years to enhance maternal and neonatal healthcare. The agreement focuses on:

• Strengthening obstetric care in Jahun General Hospital, Aujara PHC, and Miga PHC.

• Reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

Governor Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, food security, and quality healthcare services, ensuring sustainable progress for the people of Jigawa State.
