Kaduna Attracts Global Interest with Bold Reforms in Mining and Green Development

The Kaduna State Government has intensified efforts to reposition its solid minerals sector as a cornerstone for job creation, revenue generation, and environmental sustainability under the visionary leadership of Governor Uba Sani. At a quarterly ministerial press briefing, Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Abubakar Buba, outlined a series of strategic partnerships and innovations driving the sector’s transformation.
Highlighting milestones, the Commissioner announced the establishment of a lithium processing plant at Kangimi village and revealed the state’s N30 million earnings from mining activities last year. With over 70 identified minerals, including lithium, gold, and tin, Kaduna has acquired 18 new mineral titles and developed a Mining Development Roadmap with Core International Ltd.
Kaduna is also leading in climate action, becoming Nigeria’s first sub-national to develop a Climate Change Policy and Position Statement. In partnership with NGOs, the state has trained 500 youths and women on briquette making and distributed clean cooking stoves to 400 beneficiaries. These steps, along with tighter regulation of illegal mining, have positioned Kaduna as a model for sustainable resource management and economic innovation in Nigeria.
