Kaduna Leads Agric Revolution with Historic Interventions under Governor Uba Sani

Kaduna State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Murtala Dabo, has declared the state’s agricultural interventions as “second to none,” crediting Governor Uba Sani for an unprecedented scale of investment, support, and innovation in the sector. Addressing journalists at the quarterly ministerial press briefing, the Commissioner highlighted that the 2025 budget allocates a record-breaking N74.2 billion to agriculture—representing 9.36% of the state’s total budget and an astounding 5,000% increase from 2023 allocations.
Governor Uba Sani’s administration has prioritized capital investments in agriculture, with 97.7% of the sector’s budget directed towards long-term infrastructure and programs. Among the transformative initiatives is the distribution of over 500 trucks of free fertilizer and farm inputs to smallholder farmers—the largest input support scheme in the state’s history. The ‘Tallafin Noma (A Koma Gona)’ initiative alone supported over 69,000 farmers with quality seeds and agrochemicals during the rain-fed season.
The Commissioner also unveiled mechanization and irrigation efforts, including the procurement of new tractors through a public-private partnership model, and the provision of motorized tillers, solar-powered pumps, fertilizers, and pesticides to agricultural cooperatives. These reforms, he stated, are designed to promote year-round farming and reduce manual labour costs.
Furthermore, the government is developing the Agricultural Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC) in partnership with Afrexim Bank—an initiative that will support quality control, enhance global competitiveness, and position Kaduna as a major player under the AfCFTA framework. “Governor Uba Sani has not only exceeded the Malabo Declaration benchmark but has created a model for agricultural excellence across Nigeria,” the Commissioner said.
