The Katsina State Government has made an impressive commitment to education with investments surpassing N120 billion in various initiatives, including infrastructure development and academic support. These efforts are part of the state’s continued focus on building a robust educational system.

Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe outlined the administration’s achievements at a monthly press briefing, detailing substantial investments across basic, secondary, and tertiary education. The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) executed projects worth N9.1 billion, which included the construction of 160 classrooms, the provision of 612 teachers’ furniture, and a focus on infrastructure like boreholes and staff quarters.

Moreover, the government has dedicated funds to provide essential learning materials and training for education officials, benefiting over 270,000 individuals, including primary school teachers and officials from integrated Qur’anic schools. The Transforming Education System at State Level (TESS) and BESDA programs have also seen extensive development, with N5.64 billion spent on school construction and rehabilitation, as well as additional investments in science and technical education.

The Deputy Governor also highlighted the government’s collaboration with the AGILE project, which is constructing and rehabilitating schools at an investment of N13.6 billion and N36.8 billion, respectively. The project has led to significant improvements in school infrastructure and the provision of digital learning materials.

Additionally, the government has empowered 634 graduates through the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV), providing starter packs worth N248 million and enhancing the central workshop for government vehicle repairs. These efforts align with the state’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development.

The tertiary education sector also received attention, with N314 million invested in restoring electricity at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University and N135 million for accreditation fees. Furthermore, the state government allocated N1.9 billion in scholarships to 136,175 students, demonstrating its support for academic excellence.

“These achievements reflect our commitment to transforming education in Katsina State,” said Deputy Governor Lawal. “We are laying a strong foundation for the future of our citizens through strategic investments in education and human capital development.”
