The Kebbi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing healthcare services by temporarily relocating six departments from Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, to Kebbi Medical Centre, Kalgo, as part of ongoing modernization efforts.

The affected departments include Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Dental, and Physiotherapy. However, critical services such as Accident & Emergency (A&E), Maternity, Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Dialysis, Laboratory, and X-ray will remain operational at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital until renovations are completed.

Clarifying the decision, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) and Permanent Secretary, Dr. Zaki Abubakar Zaki, emphasized that the move is a temporary measure to facilitate infrastructure upgrades and the installation of advanced medical equipment.

“Governor Nasir Idris has approved the transformation of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital into a modern healthcare facility that meets contemporary standards,” Dr. Zaki stated. “This relocation is essential for a seamless reconstruction process.”

He reassured residents that Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital will remain a tertiary health institution, contributing significantly to medical training and healthcare delivery. Additionally, the state government is providing transportation support for medical staff and patients, including shuttle buses and ambulances for emergencies.

Upon completion of the modernization, the hospital will be fully equipped to train all categories of medical professionals, further strengthening Kebbi’s healthcare system. The initiative reflects Governor Idris’ commitment to providing top-tier healthcare services to the people of Kebbi State.
