The First Lady of Kebbi State, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, has called on parents and guardians to encourage their daughters to embrace the hijab, emphasizing its significance in upholding dignity, morality, and self-respect.

Speaking at the World Hijab Day celebration, organized by the Joint Muslim Women’s Organizations in collaboration with her office, Hajiya Zainab highlighted the hijab’s role in safeguarding young girls from societal vices and promoting religious and cultural values. She stressed that wearing the hijab is not just a religious obligation but also a means of preserving the honor and integrity of Muslim women.

She further urged husbands to support their wives in wearing the hijab, particularly during public outings, as a demonstration of mutual respect and cultural appreciation.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, echoed the First Lady’s sentiments, reinforcing that the hijab is a symbol of decency and a vital aspect of womanhood. She encouraged students and young women to adopt the practice to uphold societal values.

Additionally, the event served as a platform to educate the public on religious tolerance, the importance of modesty, and the positive impact of the hijab on social conduct. Hajiya Balkisu Zaki, the Amirah of the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN), encouraged women from diverse backgrounds to experience wearing the hijab for a day, fostering understanding and appreciation.

Through initiatives such as this, the Kebbi State Government continues to support programs that promote moral values, religious harmony, and the empowerment of women.
