Kogi State Commences Construction of Lokoja Ultra Modern Market
The Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has taken a significant step towards urban renewal with the commencement of the Lokoja Ultra Modern Marketproject. The project site, located at the Crusher axis in Lokoja, was officially handed over to SABC Construction Company Limited on December 9, 2024.
A Vision for Modern Commerce
Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Taiye Abanika, emphasized the project’s alignment with the governor’s vision to urbanize the state and create a welcoming environment for investment. Spanning 25 hectares, the project will consolidate all seven smaller markets in Lokoja under one roof, enhancing safety, cleanliness, and commercial efficiency.

Governor Ododo’s Legacy
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, highlighted the transformative impact of the market. He noted that the existing International Market would be repurposed as Government Warehouses and Commodity Exchange Commission, ensuring efficient resource use.
“This market will make Kogi the commercial hub of Nigeria. It’s a unique model that will inspire other states,” Fanwo stated. He assured traders of a smooth transition to the new market upon completion, reflecting Governor Ododo’s dedication to the welfare of the people.
