Kwara Governor Assists in Salvaging Goods After Fire Incident at Oja Tuntun Market
Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State joined the state Fire Service in a collaborative effort to salvage goods and property following a fire outbreak at Oja Tuntun Market in Baboko, Ilorin. The incident, which started around 9:18 pm on Wednesday, impacted 15 shops, resulting in an estimated loss of goods valued at N367.4 million.
The market, comprising 1,072 shops, 984 stands, and 27 warehouses, witnessed prompt intervention by the state Fire Service, deployed from major stations in Ilorin. The fire service, in swift action, effectively curbed the inferno, minimizing damage and protecting property estimated at over N25 billion.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq expressed empathy for the affected individuals and praised the efforts of the Kwara State Fire Service in managing the situation. He urged citizens to adopt safety measures, such as turning off electrical appliances, to prevent fire incidents in homes and workplaces, emphasizing the need for vigilance to avert such occurrences.
Additionally, former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, extended sympathies to the victims and urged collective efforts to prevent future incidents, emphasizing the importance of finding lasting solutions to protect the community and businesses from such tragedies.
