Kwara State Government Assesses Gbugbu International Market Facilities
The Kwara State Government has carried out an assessment of facilities at the newly completed Gbugbu International Market in Edu Local Government Area, as part of its efforts to ensure smooth operations and enhance business activities in the state.
During the visit, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing world-class facilities to support commercial growth. He urged traders to maintain cleanliness and proper organization within the market to ensure its long-term sustainability.
The Commissioner recommended the clustering of traders dealing in similar goods—such as grains—in designated sections to enhance orderliness, efficiency, and market coordination. He also encouraged the unification of Traders’ Associations for better representation and structured operations.
Adding to the discussion, Engr. (Mrs.) Shade Omoniyi, Chairman of Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), emphasized the importance of proper market management to ensure long-term sustainability and maximize revenue generation for the state. She highlighted the strategic location of the market, describing it as a major hub for farmers and traders from neighboring communities.
The Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, expressed appreciation for the state government’s commitment to economic growth, noting that the Gbugbu International Market is a transformative project for local traders. He appealed for the rehabilitation of the Lafiagi Daily Market, emphasizing its role in boosting rural commerce and expanding economic opportunities.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration remains committed to empowering businesses, creating jobs, and strengthening trade networks, positioning Kwara as a key player in Nigeria’s commercial landscape.
