Kwara State Government Collaborates with EFCC and DSS to Combat Illegal Mining

The Kwara State Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Afeez Abolore Alabi, has initiated a partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to tackle the scourge of illegal mining in the state.
During courtesy visits to the headquarters of both security agencies in Ilorin, Dr. Alabi highlighted the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the issue of illegal mining, which poses significant challenges to the state’s economy.
Expressing concern over the detrimental effects of illegal mining activities on state revenues, Dr. Alabi emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and security agencies to curb the menace.
In response, the state Zonal Director of the EFCC, Harry Erin, commended the commissioner for his proactive approach and pledged the EFCC’s full support in combating illegal mining. He stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement to minimize revenue losses suffered by the government.
Similarly, the State Director of the DSS emphasized the abundant mineral resources in Kwara State and underscored the need for strategies to empower youth and promote productive activities. He urged the state government to implement programs that would engage youths positively, thereby contributing to societal development.
