In a determined move to reduce maternal deaths, the Kwara State Government has trained 193 healthcare workers on the effective use of the Partograph—a critical tool for monitoring labour and detecting complications during childbirth. The 3-day training, held across primary health facilities, was organized by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency with support from the World Bank’s IMPACT project.

Executive Secretary, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s unwavering investment in health and maternal care. She noted that the training would equip frontline workers with skills to provide quality delivery care, identify labour complications early, and facilitate timely referrals, thereby saving lives and improving maternal outcomes.

Supported by experts like Dr. Michael Oguntoye and Dr. Medinat Olaosebikan, the program targeted newly recruited and existing staff across the state. The goal, according to Dr. Olaosebikan, is to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and ensure that every expectant mother in Kwara receives world-class care during childbirth. The initiative reflects Kwara’s sustained commitment to safe motherhood and a robust, responsive healthcare system.
