Lagos Christian And Muslim Welfare Boards Embrace Office Farming For Sustainable Development

The Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSCPWB) has successfully harvested its office farming produce, marking a significant achievement in the promotion of self-sufficiency, eco-friendly practices, and team bonding.
The initiative was inspired by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, during the 2024 National Women’s Conference, where she encouraged organizations to embrace sustainable agriculture within office spaces.
Speaking at the harvest ceremony, Board Secretary, Mrs. Florence Yetunde Gbafe, commended the staff for their dedication and urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to replicate the initiative. She emphasized that office farming can foster food security, teamwork, and wellness, regardless of professional backgrounds.
As part of the board’s commitment to staff welfare and community well-being, the harvested produce will be shared among employees and neighboring offices.
The event also showcased interfaith collaboration, as Mr. Saheed Onipede, the Board Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSMPWB), announced plans for a similar farming initiative within his board.
“The success of this project has inspired us to start our own farming venture. Faith-based organizations can play a crucial role in promoting sustainability and community welfare,” Onipede stated.
