Lagos Deputy Governor Engages LJLA Fellows on Leadership Excellence
The Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) were given a rare opportunity to engage in an interactive Fireside Chat with Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, gaining first-hand insights into governance, policy-making, and leadership principles.
During the engaging session held at LJLA’s headquarters, Dr. Hamzat emphasized the importance of fact-based governance, strategic decision-making, and national identity in effective leadership.
“True leadership goes beyond knowledge; it requires clarity, data-driven decisions, and the ability to unite people towards a common goal,” Dr. Hamzat stated.
Commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership in establishing the LJLA, he noted that the academy serves as a strategic investment in nurturing the next generation of competent, ethical, and innovative leaders.

Dr. Hamzat further cautioned against the blind adoption of foreign governance models, stressing that Nigeria’s unique socio-economic landscape requires localized solutions rather than imported policies.
“Effective governance demands a deep understanding of local realities, a commitment to positive values, and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” he advised.
Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, expressed appreciation to the Deputy Governor for his insightful discourse, noting that the session provided valuable lessons that will shape the Fellows’ leadership journeys.
The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, allowing the Fellows to engage directly with Dr. Hamzat and discuss pressing leadership and governance challenges.
