Lagos Government Dismisses Misleading Claims, Reaffirms City’s Resilience and Hospitality

The Lagos State Government has firmly debunked misleading claims circulating online that portray the state as “smelly” and plagued by oversized mosquitoes. The viral comments, made by social media influencer Scott Iguma during a podcast interview, were swiftly dismissed as sensationalist and damaging to the reputation of Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, responded via his official X handle, describing the remarks as a deliberate attempt to undermine the state’s progress and diversity. “Lagos is a place of opportunity, innovation, and resilience. Malicious narratives do not reflect the experience of millions who thrive here daily,” Wahab stated.

He emphasized that while constructive criticism is welcome, falsehoods and divisive rhetoric should not be allowed to overshadow the state’s strides in environmental reform, infrastructure, and inclusivity. Wahab also called on influencers to adopt a more responsible tone, urging them to hold all states to similar standards and celebrate national unity through balanced dialogue.
