Lagos Government Expands Maternal and Child Health Support in Lekki, Epe, and Eti-Osa

As part of its commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative, and Civic Engagement, has launched the Mother, Infant, and Child Development (MICHD) Programme in partnership with Health District III for residents of Lekki, Epe, and Eti-Osa.
Flagged off at the Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the initiative aims to provide nutritional support to vulnerable pregnant women, ensuring safer pregnancies, healthier births, and improved early childhood development.
The Director of Citizens Engagement, Dr. Babatunde Omotayo, emphasized the importance of nutrition in maternal and infant health, noting that proper nutrition significantly reduces pregnancy-related complications.
Additionally, the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, announced the enrollment of 600 vulnerable individuals (200 each in Lekki, Epe, and Eti-Osa) under the Ekosha Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring free medical care for beneficiaries.
Dr. Adeleke praised the Lagos State Government’s commitment to universal healthcare coverage, emphasizing that community-driven initiatives like MICHD are essential in reducing maternal and infant mortality while improving access to quality healthcare for all.
