Lagos Government Postpones PWD Rail Crossing Closure to May 14 to Ease Public Transition

The Lagos State Government has rescheduled the planned closure of the PWD Rail Crossing in Ikeja, originally slated for May 1, to a new date—Wednesday, May 14. This adjustment is intended to give motorists and residents adequate time to plan and adapt to the changes in traffic flow.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, emphasized that the delay is in response to public concern and aimed at minimizing disruptions. “We understand the inconvenience such closures may cause and are committed to ensuring a smooth transition,” she noted, adding that all previously announced alternative routes remain valid.
The closure is part of ongoing efforts to enhance commuter safety following the launch of the Red Line Train Service. Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that recent safety assessments prompted the government to take proactive steps to avoid accidents along the corridor. Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers will be deployed to manage traffic, while the government continues to appeal for public patience and cooperation throughout the maintenance window.
