Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) Trains Ibeju-Lekki Youths on Technical Skills

In a major step toward bridging the technical skills gap, the Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has launched a vocational training program for youths in Ibeju-Lekki, offering scholarships to 20 indigenous students.
The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Sesan Olowa, during a visit to LASCOCO’s Technical Skill-up Acquisition Centre, commended the institution for providing specialized training in plumbing, pipeline fittings, industrial electrical installation, and other technical fields.
He emphasized that the initiative aims to:
• Equip young people with employable skills
• Position them for job opportunities within the Lekki Free Trade Zone, home to over 60 local and international companies
• Provide globally recognized City and Guilds certification, making them highly competitive in the labor market
In collaboration with the Ade Otukomaya Foundation, the program underscores the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and employment creation.
Provost of LASCOCO, Mr. Akorede Ojomu, reiterated the college’s goal of reducing dependence on foreign-skilled labor, ensuring that Nigerian youths can fill technical roles in key industrial sectors.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Lagos’ workforce, creating a pipeline of skilled professionals for the state’s growing industries.
