In a decisive move to promote safer construction practices and protect the quality of life for residents, the Lagos State Government has restricted construction activities across the state to the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.

The new directive was announced by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, via a statement released by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Mukaila Sanusi.

Dr. Olumide explained that the policy aims to curb the rising incidents of building collapse, reduce environmental hazards, and support residents’ right to a peaceful night’s rest. He emphasized that the directive will be strictly enforced, and all stakeholders in the construction sector must comply.

“While the dynamic nature of building projects is acknowledged, any request for construction beyond stipulated hours must be formally submitted for review,” Olumide added.

The Commissioner also encouraged Lagosians to be proactive and report any site violating the restriction. Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the move, citing its potential to improve safety and reduce nighttime disruptions.

Enforcement takes immediate effect as Lagos strengthens its commitment to urban safety, planning integrity, and citizen welfare.
