Lagos State Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Development Through Strategic Collaboration

The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at empowering young people and eliminating systemic barriers hindering their development.
At a three-day retreat for the Ministry’s Technical Working Group (TWG), held at Providence Hotel, Ikeja, Honourable Commissioner Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende highlighted the significance of youth development in Lagos.
“With over 70% of Lagos residents under the age of 35, youth represent a crucial force for the state’s future. However, many face barriers that hinder their potential. It is our collective duty to dismantle these barriers and create an environment where every young Lagosian can thrive,” Ogunlende stated.
The retreat focused on aligning strategies with the Lagos State Youth Policy, fostering innovation and dedicated action toward key development areas.
Permanent Secretary, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, emphasized that the TWG will create a roadmap for transforming youth development, ensuring their active participation in Lagos’ economic and social progress.
“This retreat formalizes a strategic framework for youth engagement over the next three years, ensuring that our initiatives are impactful, inclusive, and sustainable,” she added.
Key discussions included:
• Economic empowerment for youth
• Promoting healthy lifestyles
• Ensuring equitable opportunities for all young people
• Building strategic partnerships and collaborations
• Addressing climate change and environmental sustainability
With input from government agencies, CSOs, NGOs, and private sector partners, the retreat marked a crucial step toward actionable youth-focused policies in Lagos State.
