The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) joined the global observance of the 2025 International Noise Awareness Day (INAD) with a strong call to action under the theme: “Protect Your Hearing, Protect Your Health.” The event, held at the agency’s conference hall in Alausa, emphasized the urgent need to combat noise pollution due to its rising public health risks.

Addressing the gathering, LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, highlighted the detrimental effects of noise pollution on cardiovascular health, mental wellness, and overall quality of life. “Noise pollution is no longer just an inconvenience—it’s a major public health threat. This campaign is a call for collective responsibility,” he declared. Dr. Ajayi revealed that LASEPA had received 1,616 noise-related complaints in the past 18 months, leading to over 600 enforcement actions against violators, including religious centers, clubs, and commercial outlets.

The agency announced intensified enforcement and a digitized sound permit system to streamline compliance. In her remarks, Mrs. Natufe Abosede, Director of the Noise Pollution Unit, called for proactive hearing health awareness. The event featured free hearing tests and concluded with the presentation of an excellence award to Dr. Ajayi by the Music Advertisement Association of Nigeria (MAAN) for his outstanding leadership in environmental sustainability.
