In a proactive response to recent cholera outbreaks, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Government of Japan, launched a two-day emergency training workshop for frontline food vendors and waste workers in flood-prone areas of Lagos.

The workshop, held at NECA House, Ikeja, is part of a UNIDO-Japan initiative to build emergency response capacity in Badagry and Ikorodu. LASEPA GM, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, described the program as a life-saving measure. “This is an emergency deployment, not just training. We are already applying the knowledge in affected areas,” he said.

UNIDO’s Nigeria Programme Coordinator, Mr. Oluyomi Banjo, and global health experts such as Ms. Su Zar Chi Lwin and Dr. Adedayo Aderibigbe led practical sessions on safe food handling and community hygiene. The initiative empowers trainers to deliver gender-responsive, practical outreach in high-risk zones, bolstering public health resilience in vulnerable communities.
