In a major push to industrialize agriculture and attract investment, the Niger State Government has received official certificates for the commencement of three Special Agro Processing Zones (SAPZ) located in Minna, Takunpara, and Mokwa. This milestone marks a significant step forward in Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s vision to transform Niger into a leading agro-industrial hub.

The announcement was made during a post-council media briefing at Government House, Minna, by the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, Investment, and Private Sector Development, represented by Permanent Secretary Hamza Sarki Bello. He assured residents that work on the zones will begin soon, with the state’s strategic focus on export-driven production and foreign direct investment.

Updates were also provided on the broader Special Agro Industrial Processing Zone program and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport Free Trade Zone, which are actively positioning Niger State for global agribusiness integration. Additionally, the government is advancing the Lambata Agro-Industrial Park, complete with CNG gas plants, an NSCD suite, and a five-star logistics component. The Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to completing these projects, including the revival of the Zungeru Fertilizer Plant through a reactivated MoU with an Indian firm.

Further demonstrating inclusive development, the Ministry—through the Niger Commodity and Export Promotion Agency and in partnership with UN Women—trained 100 women in shea processing and provided ₦38 million worth of business kits and biogas units to 150 women in Bosso and Chanchaga LGAs.
