As Ogun State marks its 49th anniversary, it stands as a beacon of progress, resilience, and development. Since its creation on February 3, 1976, the state has grown into a powerhouse of economic and infrastructural transformation, thanks to visionary leadership and dedicated governance.

It will be recalled that on this day in 1976, the then Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed, announced the creation of seven new states, increasing Nigeria’s states from 12 to 19. Ogun State, carved out from the old Western State, was established as a fusion of the Abeokuta/Egbado and Ijebu/Remo divisions of the defunct Egba and Ijebu provinces.

Over the years, Ogun State has evolved into a thriving hub of industrialization, education, and urban expansion. The administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun continues to build on this legacy, driving forward initiatives in infrastructure, health, education, and economic empowerment to uplift the people of the state.

The government remains committed to improving the quality of life for all residents through people-centered policies, sustainable development projects, and innovative governance. As the state celebrates this milestone, the future looks even brighter with ongoing efforts to position Ogun as a model for socio-economic advancement in Nigeria.

Happy 49th Anniversary, Ogun State! The journey of greatness continues!
