Ekiti State has recorded a major milestone in its public health campaign with the vaccination of over 266,000 girls aged 9–14 against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a critical step in preventing cervical cancer. The disclosure was made by the Governor’s wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, during the launch of the “Girl Effect OYA Campaign” in Ado-Ekiti.

Dr. Oyebanji described the campaign as a rallying call to protect girls through life-saving vaccinations and proper nutrition. “Let us build a future where no girl in Ekiti dies from a preventable disease. Every girl deserves to live, learn, and lead,” she said, encouraging parents, educators, and community leaders to support the effort.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, commended the First Lady’s advocacy and noted that the state has already surpassed 90% HPV coverage, with the new campaign deepening outreach through health education and nutritional awareness. Girl Effect Country Director, Mrs. Boladale Akin-Kolade, reinforced the campaign’s mission to empower girls with critical health knowledge and preventive care that will protect them now and into adulthood.
