PRESS RELEASE: PGF Congratulates Governor Mai Mala Buni on Emergence as Chairman, Lake Chad Governors Forum
The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) congratulates His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, Executive Governor of Yobe State, on his well-deserved emergence as the Chairman of the Lake Chad Governors Forum.
Governor Buni’s appointment is a recognition of his exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment to regional cooperation, and dedication to addressing the pressing challenges confronting the Lake Chad Basin. His emergence at this crucial time signals a renewed momentum in the collective efforts to restore the shrinking Lake Chad, enhance regional security, and promote sustainable socio-economic development.
The Progressive Governors Forum commends Governor Buni’s vision and advocacy for environmental restoration, particularly through the inter-basin water transfer initiative, as well as his commitment to a holistic approach that integrates peace-building, security enhancement, and economic revitalization in the region. His call for urgent action aligns with our shared commitment to fostering regional stability and economic resilience.
PGF also acknowledges the role of development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as well as the governments of Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the Netherlands, in supporting the stabilization and development of the region.
