Sanwo-Olu’s Commitment Enhances Lives of Lagos Retirees

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration continues to honor the hard work of Lagos State civil servants by ensuring their retirement benefits are promptly disbursed. Recently, the state government allocated N740 million in accrued pension rights to 348 retirees during the 107th batch retirement bond certificate presentation ceremony. This payment addresses entitlements earned prior to the introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in 2007. Director General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Mr. Babalola Obilana, commended the Governor for his swift action in meeting pension obligations and enhancing retirees’ welfare. The LASPEC has made significant strides in improving transparency and efficiency in the pension system, now enabling retirement benefits to be paid within the same year of retirement. The state government also offers free health insurance and subsidized public transportation for retirees, showcasing its unwavering commitment to their well-being. During the ceremony, retirees were encouraged to embrace this new phase of life and continue contributing to their communities, highlighting the Governor’s vision for financial security and support for Lagos retirees.
