Sokoto State to Address Challenges Hindering Efficient Healthcare Delivery

The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving challenges affecting the smooth operation of General Hospitals and other healthcare facilities across the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruku Umar Abubakar Wurno, made this known during an unscheduled visit to Kware General Hospital and WC-WC Hospital in Gidadawa, where he assessed the state of healthcare service delivery.
Dr. Wurno emphasized that Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration is dedicated to providing a conducive healthcare environment, ensuring that medical facilities are equipped with the necessary tools for effective service delivery.
At Kware General Hospital, the Commissioner expressed dissatisfaction with the poor turnout of medical personnel, directing the hospital management to submit the names of 16 nurses found absent during the visit.
“Gone are the days when health workers could neglect their duty posts despite the numerous support initiatives provided by the state government. We will ensure accountability in our hospitals to improve service delivery,” he stated.
During his visit to WC-WC Hospital in Gidadawa, Dr. Wurno urged the hospital management to increase antenatal care (ANC) services from two days to five days per week, ensuring better maternal and child healthcare.
The Commissioner also stressed the importance of community participation in healthcare, calling on local stakeholders to support the government’s efforts to improve medical services.
Commending the sanitary conditions at WC-WC Hospital, Dr. Wurno encouraged the management to maintain high hygiene standards.
He was accompanied by Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Bello Abubakar Attahiru, and other directors from the Ministry of Health and the Hospital Services Board.
