In a collaborative effort to promote environmental sustainability, the National Environmental Standards, Regulations and Enforcement Agency (NESREA) and the TGED Foundation have called on Ekiti State residents and stakeholders to adopt environmentally conscious practices. This initiative was highlighted during a World Environment Day event in Ado-Ekiti, where stakeholders from various sectors gathered to discuss strategies for land restoration, combating desertification, and building resilience.

Speaking at the event, Gbenga Akinola, Acting State Coordinator of NESREA’s Ekiti field office, emphasized the agency’s commitment to working with stakeholders to protect the environment. He stressed the importance of raising awareness about the long-term impacts of human activities on the environment and urged the community to support NESREA and the TGED Foundation’s efforts.

Chief Executive Officer of TGED Foundation, Oluwaseyi Ebenezer, praised NESREA’s dedication to environmental protection. She highlighted the critical need for innovative solutions and community engagement to address land degradation and desertification, which pose significant social and economic challenges.

Dr. Oluwole Adeoye, a lecturer in the Science Laboratory Technology department at Ekiti State University, underscored the urgency of preserving arable lands to combat food insecurity. He revealed that Nigeria has one of the highest deforestation rates globally and called for concerted efforts to protect the environment.

The event, themed “Land Restoration, Desertification and Resilience,” featured participants from security agencies, the National Emergency Management Agency, farmers, and government officials. The forum aimed to brainstorm solutions and forward resolutions to NESREA headquarters in Abuja, reinforcing a shared commitment to reversing land degradation and fostering environmental resilience in Ekiti State.
