UNILAG’s Pioneer MSc Procurement Graduates Are Change Agents – Governor Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has hailed the pioneer graduates of the MSc. Procurement Management Programme under the Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Centre of Excellence (SPESSCE) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as change agents poised to drive innovation and socio-economic transformation.

Speaking at a gala night organized by the graduates at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Special Adviser on Internal Audit, Dr. (Mrs.) Oyeyemi Aina, commended the graduates for their commitment to excellence and urged them to leverage their expertise to impact Lagos, Nigeria, and the global economy positively.

“I urge you to be bold, innovative, and resilient in the face of challenges. The world needs your expertise, passion, and commitment to making a difference,” the governor stated.

He also recognized the World Bank, the National Universities Commission, the University of Lagos, and the Lagos State Government for their collaborative efforts in establishing the SPESSCE program, describing it as a model partnership for capacity building and sustainable development.

Director-General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Fatai Idowu Onafowote, highlighted the crucial role of procurement in governance, stating that a well-structured procurement system translates government vision into tangible development. He urged graduates to uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability in their professional engagements.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. James Akanmu encouraged graduates to apply their knowledge for societal good, while Class Governor, Mr. Johnson Agboola, assured stakeholders that their investment in capacity building would yield long-term benefits for national development.

The event was graced by top academia, government officials, and procurement experts, marking a milestone in Nigeria’s commitment to professionalizing procurement and supply chain management.
