The Yobe State government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating violence against women and girls, emphasizing that such acts undermine the principles of natural justice. This was stated by the Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, who represented Governor Mai Mala Buni at the flag-off of the annual sensitization campaign, “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.”

The event, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with international NGOs and domestic CBOs, aimed to raise awareness and promote solutions to gender-based violence. Bego highlighted that protecting women and girls is rooted in religious traditions and common sense, stressing that society and the law must ensure their safety at all times.

He noted that Governor Buni’s administration has demonstrated its commitment by establishing seven Government Girls Senior Day Secondary Schools to promote girl-child education and including women in agricultural empowerment programs. “This stems from the governor’s firm belief that no society can achieve greatness without the active involvement of women,” Bego stated.

The initiative underscores Yobe’s resolve to address gender-based violence through education, empowerment, and community engagement.
